Lens Replacement for Treatment of Cataracts

Like millions of other people, I have suffered from near-sightedness for most of my life.  I started wearing glasses for the first time when I was about 14 years old.  After I reached my twenties, I decided to try contact lens.  Soft contact lenses had recently been introduced and since I hated wearing glasses so much, I was all for trying something new.

Unfortunately, I must be one of those people that just can’t tolerate contacts very well.  First, I always had difficulty putting them in and taking them out.  It made me a nervous wreck dealing with this task.  The contacts I wore were extended wear which meant that I could keep them in for about a week before I had to take them out for cleaning.

Not only did I have problems taking the contacts in and out, but I also had a couple of eye infections as a result of wearing them.  Probably for leaving them in too long I guess.  In any case, my eye doctor told me to leave them out for a few weeks to let my eyes rest and clear up before wearing them again.  I ended up going back to my glasses for several years before trying contacts again in my early thirties.  Once again, I did not tolerate them very well and just did not have the patience for putting them in and taking them out.  I decided to go back to glasses and deal with the fact that I was not a good candidate for contacts.

As I got older, I noticed that my vision was not what it used to be.  In fact, it seemed like every time I went to the eye doctor, my vision had gotten worse and I had to get stronger and stronger glasses.  I feared that before long I would have to be wearing glasses with lens so thick that it looked like I was seeing through the ends of coke bottles.  You know what I mean.

Then by the time I was in my late forties, my doctor told me that I was beginning to develop Cataracts on both eyes.  He said I was not yet to the point of having to do anything about them, but they would only get worse as I aged and sooner or later I would have to have surgery.

Well I started reading up on my options.  I remembered how when my Grandmother had Cataract surgery in the early seventies, she was basically blind after the surgery without having to wear these really thick glasses.  I did not look forward to a similar fate.

Fortunately, technology has come a long way since the seventies in regards to the treatment of Cataracts.  My eye doctor explained to me how they can replace the lens of your eye with an artificial lens and potentially return you to 20/20 vision.  I was very excited about the possibility of not having to wear glasses any more, but of course there is risk in having any kind of surgery and there were no guarantees.

In late 2007, I went to an eye doctor that specialized in lens replacement surgery for the treatment of Cataracts.  After an initial consultation and a very thorough eye exam, my first surgery was scheduled.  They rarely do surgery on both eyes at the same time.  I guess this is partly from a risk standpoint.  The plan was to do one eye and then do the other eye two weeks later.

I remember on the morning of the first surgery being very nervous.  My nervousness was soon put to rest by the wonderful people that prepared me for the surgery.  It was almost like an assembly line in efficiency.  When I was brought back from the waiting room, I was escorted to a large room just outside of the operating room.  There were six of us all lined up waiting for surgery that morning.  They had six of these Lazy boy type reclining chairs lined up in a row that they put us in.  One of the nurses came by to each of us to make sure we were comfortable and to take our blood pressure.  They also gave us a little pill to relax us.  I noticed that a couple of the patients had IV’s of some type.

When my turn came, my nurse helped me out of the recliner and walked with me into the operating room.  I climbed up onto the table by myself and they started placing paper sheets around the eye that was having the surgery.  I remember feeling very calm about the whole thing, but I was going to be wide awake during the entire procedure.

Then when the doctor walked in I was completely calm in one sense, but also excited at the possibility of having good sight without wearing glasses.  I remember the entire procedure.  There was no pain or discomfort whatsoever.  There were a couple times when I felt a slight pressure on my eye when the incision was made and again when the new lens was being inserted into place, but they said that was normal.  The doctor talked to me throughout the entire procedure and described what she was doing at each point.  It was not an unpleasant procedure at all.  The entire surgical procedure took less than fifteen minutes and I was on my way.

For the next two weeks between surgeries, I had several types of eye drops and ointments that I had to apply to my eye.  These were to prevent infections and to help my eye heal as quickly as possible.  Two weeks later I had the other eye done and repeated the same process.  The difference in my vision was almost immediate.  As soon as each eye was done, my vision was back to normal within 24 hours or so.  The final outcome was that I ended up with 20/20 distance vision.  I had never been able to see this well in my entire life.  It was amazing all the things I had missed out on.  Colors were much more vivid after the surgery.

In the few years since my eye surgery, I have been back for touch up laser surgery on one eye and am about to have laser surgery on the other eye soon.  The doctor told me that touch up laser surgery may be required within a year or two of the lens replacement surgery and that this was entirely normal.  Once this was done, my vision would not change any more for the rest of my life.  Even though the procedure was fairly expensive, I can tell you now that this was one of the best investments that I have ever made in my life.  I was also fortunate to have good insurance that paid for a large portion of the procedure.  I would highly recommend this procedure for anyone with Cataracts.  I cannot begin to tell you how this procedure has improved the quality of my life in the last few years.  Good vision is something you should be thankful for every day.  Never take it for granted.

If you’re a candidate for Cataract surgery and/or want to learn more, I highly endorse Dr. Cathy Schanzer of Southern Eye Associates of Memphis, Tennessee.  Website:  http://www.southerneyememphis.com/

Buying and Selling Domain Names

I started buying domain names in the late nineties when there were still plenty of really good names to be found. That’s not the case any more. At least I don’t believe so. The majority of the domains that I own are .com names. Many of them are between five and ten years old. The age of the domain can be really important in the eyes of the Search Engines. Oh I have some .org and .net names and a few other miscellaneous TLD’s (Top Level Domains) such as .info and .ws as well, but I like to stick with the original and most valuable TLD, the .com.

Brief History

If you are new to the domain names market, you may not know the difference between the various TLD’s. The original three (.com, .net and .org) stand for Commercial, Network and Organization respectively. Back in the day, the three TLD’s were much more aligned with what they were created for. The .com extension was meant for commercial (for profit) businesses. The .net extension was generally used for Internet Service Providers and .org was mostly used by non-profit organizations such as churches, clubs, etc. However, over the years people would tend to use whatever name was available with no real attempt to use the appropriate TLD.

Of course as more and more people and businesses jumped on board the Internet, it got harder and harder to find good names. Once the value of domain names became apparent, many people started registering domain names by the hundreds in an attempt to gobble up all the remaining good names for investment purposes. It was those early investors who made their fortune by buying up those one-word domain names like Business.com which sold for $8 million dollars or Autos.com which sold for a cool $2.2 million. Although Business.com still holds the record for the highest amount paid for a single domain name, quite a few have sold for $1 million or more.

As the demand for domain names grew, it became obvious that new TLD’s would have to be created in order to meet the demand into the future. After the original three, we saw .edu (education), .mil (military) and .gov (government) TLD’s introduced. After that, it seemed like every year or two another TLD would come along and there would be another rush to grab up all the good names for those extensions. Today we have dozens of top level domains to choose from including .tv, .info, .ws and of course all the country TLD’s like co.uk (United Kingdom).

What makes a really good domain name?

There are a number of opinions on this, but personally I use the following guide when I’m deciding to buy a domain name.

  • The name itself should contain from one to four keywords.  I prefer no more than three, but it really depends on the name.
  • The name should only contain letters.  No numbers or dashes.  Even though dashes can make a domain name easier to read when it contains multiple words, those dashes are meaningless to the search engines and make the overall name less valuable.
  • Don’t make the name too long. It should be something that is easy to remember, easy to spell and doesn’t take a long time to type out.
  • I generally stay away from abbreviations and non-words, unless it really makes sense. For example, WXYZ.com really doesn’t make sense unless I’m buying a domain name for a radio station and these are its call letters.
  • Stick with .com names if at all possible. .net and .org names are okay, but I prefer the .com name when available.

Buying and Selling Your Domains

If you plan to buy and sell domain names on a regular basis, I would highly recommend that you obtain a reseller’s account at one of the more popular domain registrar’s such as www.enom.com. You will generally get better pricing when you’re a reseller and most reseller accounts offer useful online tools to help you manage your domain portfolio.

When it comes to selling your domains, there are many places available to post your domains. One of the most popular sites today for buying and selling domains as well as complete websites is www.flippa.com. I try to browse through the listings on Flippa at least two or three times per week. You can run across some really good domain names every now and then. If you’re looking for a complete website, this is probably one of the best places to start your search. Some real gems are available every now and then if you’re patient. Two other good places to look for domains as well as completed websites are www.ebay.com and www.godaddy.com. Auctions can be a good source for domains, although you should always be cautious not to pay too much. Also be wary of claims by the seller that the site is already making a lot of money. Make sure you do your due diligence and research these claims before making an offer. If you’re buying from an auction site, always make sure to check the seller’s feedback.

Personally, I tend to be the type of person that buys domains and holds them for a while. Some people like to turn them over quickly. It all depends on your goals and the business model you want to follow. The first thing I usually do after I buy a domain is to “Park” it somewhere until I decide what my plans are for the domain. I will either buy or hold or I might develop a website with the domain for myself or to resell. “Parking” a domain means that you are loaning the use of the domain to someone else who will create a site for advertising purposes using your domain and then direct traffic to the site based on keywords. Then, whatever revenue is produced from these advertisements is split between you and the company that you parked the domain with. This may only produce a few cents to a few dollars per month, but it’s better than just letting the domain sit there especially if you plan to hold it for a long time.

When it comes to selling my domains, I would have to call myself a passive seller. By that I mean that I generally don’t actively list my domains for sale on a regular basis. Oh I will occasionally post one or more of my domains on EBay or Godaddy Auctions, but most of the domains I have sold to date have been where the potential buyer has approached me first. I have sold about ten domain names in the last two years. Two of those sold for $750 each. Not bad for a small investment in registration fees. My domain portfolio is currently about 160 domain names of which 90% are .com names.

Summary

Buying and selling domain names can be a very rewarding venture. Whether you’re doing it as a business or as a hobby, it can be a fun way to spend a few hours per week. It has given me many years of enjoyment as well as some extra money in my pocket. If you’re looking for an online business that can be both fun and profitable or you already have an online business and are looking for another income stream, then I would highly recommend you look into domain names.

3 Effective Ways to Make Your Own Informational Products

When you think about information product creation, what comes to mind? Do you get bogged down and cannot think any longer? One of the biggest problems that internet marketers have is that they are not innovative and can’t find new info product ideas. However, it’s really not that difficult to create an info product if you look into varied directions. In the following article we will talk about three special product ideas that you can utilize to get your thinking gear in place.

An important trend right now is to offer people materials that they can leverage right away without having to create them themselves. This is one idea you use in many ways in a wide range of industries. If you are a graphic designer, for example, you can create a number of readymade graphics for a particular niche and sell them. There are plenty of people who want to include graphics in their designs but would prefer not to hire a designer and they are the ones who will buy from you. All you have to do is think outside the box to see what readymade products people are willing to part with their money for. This is a case of giving them the cooked fish rather than teaching them how to fish. There’s a large market for these products because most people want a solution handed to them on a silver platter. Provide them with this option and they will be happy to give you money for it.

You can also provide your customers with individual coaching for a price. This is a very popular business model because everyone wants to be shown how to do it. If you have information in a particular area or a skill that you can show others how to do, it would be easy for you to start personal coaching times on the phone. If you want to go up a notch, you can also provide online coaching session where you can teach more than one person at a time. This a very results driven way to make up informational products because tutoring is deemed valuable. You can get more money from clients than from other kinds of products. The best part about this is that it doesn’t take much of your time and all you need to do is help others with your knowledge and get paid for it.

Lastly, you can do some research and create case studies to sell. People love information products that offer real life examples and no better way to give them that then through case studies. Look around in your niche and see what research information you can gather and create a case study and go through some existing ones to get a fair idea on how they’re done. If done correctly, you can make a lot of money on just this one idea. We can see from this article that creating an information product is not extremely difficult if you have plan. You can employ the strategies in this article to put together your own info product that can be the basis of business.

What Does It Really Mean To Be A Self Publisher?

Recall back in the times when there were zero online printing services and in case you desired to release a book, you had to go through the procedure of writing a query letter, finding an agent, finding an editor, getting an artist, and managing all of the modifications and bureaucracy that go along with the conventional printing houses? Personal publishing retailers for example Cafepress, Lulu, Createspace and others will print on demand the additional publications that the clients will want and they are going to ship it as well as get the payouts from the customers who order the books.

And as a writer, you’ve nothing to get worried but waiting to get your income from the printing stores, and also you’re the 1 to choose how much per publication will out in the market. And as an additional feedback, Cafepress, Lulu, Createspace self printing services can settle for from submitted digital material like Microsoft Word documents, PDFs, text data files and even Rich Text Format documents. The structure, size and design of the printing will come from the wish of the book creator. However the difference of online self publishing outlets to a standard self printing inside your area, the first one, they won’t bill upon submission right until there’s a purchase coming in.

Although the second kind of self publishing in your neighborhood, will charge you upon distribution to print them right away. You don’t have to walk or take a drive to the publishingoffice just to provide your manuscript. No need to go out. Just sit down and take it easy in submitting your manuscript.

How to Make a Living From Selling Domains

One of the best methods for making money either on or offline is to buy something for a cheap price and then sell it for a higher price. This is how just about every business makes its money. Even grocery stores make money using this basic premise. If a grocery store is able to do it, why can’t you?

Domain name flipping is a great way to earn extra money online. The basic concept is simple. In order to make a profit, buy a domain name and sell it to someone who wants to buy it. Quite naturally, this process has more worked involved than you might think. Increase your profits from domain name flipping by using some of these methods.

Selling via a domain name auction site is the easiest way to flip a domain name. There are quite a few of them out there to choose from. Being able to sell their domain names on e-bay is manageable for some people. Use a domain name auction site if you are serious about making money through a quick auction sale.

If you use that option, you know that you will be selling your domain name to others who know the value of domain names and are less likely to cheat you. The fees are usually lower at these sites than at e-bay. If you have more than one domain for sale, it would be wise to take a little time and set up a domain portfolio. A portfolio is a great marketing tool if you have more than one domain. With a portfolio you can supply as many potential customers with all you domain statistics as you want. You will therefore look like a legitimate seller and you can build a professional reputation. The size of your portfolio is unimportant. Simply a list of the domains you have for sale and an appraisal of their value is sufficient. Of course, the more information you provide on your domain names the easier it will be to sell them.

Your domain name should be attached to a website. Instead of holding on to it, you can make a much larger profit if you can prove that the domain name has been earning money. Truthfully, it is easier to sell a website than a stand along domain name. Quite naturally, even building small websites take time. Instead of attaching a domain name to a website, it is much easier to just leave it alone. Building a website might not be in your best interests if you are pressed for time. But on the other hand, websites do make more money than domain names.

Flipping domain names is a perfectly legitimate way to make online money. Truthfully, because it is so simple to do, some internet marketers flip domain names in their free time in order to make extra cash. If you don’t mind putting in some extra work, you can earn quite a nice chunk of change buying and selling domain names. You can do this activity by approaching it in many different ways. The harder you are willing to work, the more you will be able to get out of it.

The Times of Albert Einstein

Most of us, if not everyone knows Albert Einstein or have at least heard of him. He is a famous scientist. He is the one who is associated with the famous formula involving the speed of light. And his contributions are always remembered and cited whenever scientific explanations or different concepts are explained and elaborated. But who is Albert Einstein as a person anyway? Is there a biography of Albert Einstein? As far as we know, there is no official biography of this famous scientist, but we will tell you all about his life!

Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany on March 14, 1879. His father Hermann Einstein was an engineer and his mother was Pauline Einstein. He spent his elementary days in a Catholic school when his family moved to Munich. His curiosity about how some kind of force is deflecting the needles of a compass has in some way led him to be a known scientist today.

When his family moved to Italy, he continued to study in Switzerland and there he had high quality physics teacher and facilities. And when he got employed in a Swiss patent office in Bern, he spent his spare time doing his own works and publications about theoretical physics without any kind of help from anybody.

His works earned him his doctorate degree in Zurich and then a Privatdozent in Berne. It did not take him long to obtain a regular appointment afterwards until he became a director.

He was married twice. And he died on April 18, 1955 leaving a remnant of his great works which until now is still considered as a fundamental concept in the area of theoretical physics. Albert Einstein achieved so much in a short span of time and he contributed a lot through his works throughout his entire life.

Making Your Living By Selling Domains

So what is domain flipping? With the act of domain flipping, you buy a domain name for a website and then sell it to someone else. What you’re trying to do with domain flipping is make more money on the sale of the domains than you spent buying them. Flipping is popular in all forms of sales. Flipping is even practiced by real estate moguls. The greatest aspect about flipping domain names is the fact that it can be done as a side business. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it, like most business ventures go. Buying and selling domain names can cause you to profit in a few ways.

A new course is causing quite a buzz in the Internet Marketing community and you can find more information about it at this Confidential Conversions page.

You will have to polish up those negotiation techniques. Negotiating is an integral part of doing business. The simple fact is that buyers are often going to try to get you to lower your prices or to kick in extra products or services. Some of those flipping domains will not want to negotiate at all. While this is certainly a legitimate stance to take, we recommend that you learn how to polish your haggling and negotiation skills. By negotiating, or even simply agreeing to do so, with any potential customers, you will find that they will trust you more and thus increase your chances of selling the domain. Negotiation skills may come in handy by helping you bargain your way into a bigger sale!

Get an appraisal of the domain name that you have purchased. In order to get a feel for how much your domain name is valued, you can use free and paid appraisal services. You may consider it a waste of time if you get your domain name appraised. That’s not correct. The main reason for getting an appraisal for your domain name is so that you will have documentation that supports your asking price.

When you have an appraisal done it is harder for people to argue price with you or to tell you that your domain name is worth less than it is. Thankfully, it doesn’t cost a lot to have a domain name appraised. You can even find websites that will evaluate your domain names free of charge.

A new course is causing quite a buzz in the Internet Marketing community and you can find more information about it at this Confidential Conversions page.

Make certain that you price your domain appropriately. A domain that has never hosted a website will return a lower profit. You can still make money from them of course but you need to make sure that the prices are appropriate. An unused domain is unlikely to net a return of hundreds of dollars. Overpricing your domains can lead to you not making the sale. If you under price your domains, though, you could end up losing money. When pricing your domains, keep an eye out for the price of other types of domains and use that as a guide in your own calculations.

The flipping of domain names is a perfectly legitimate business model. This type of business has made lots of money for many internet marketers. Of course not every domain name flipping business is identical. The amount of money you make is proportional to the amount of time you put into building your domain name flipping business.

5 of the Most Popular Web Hosting Companies

Shared web hosting is still the most popular type of hosting online, although that will probably change in a few years when cloud hosting will be perfected and everyone will start using it in their datacenters. It is very cheap and if the physical machines are powerful enough and not too loaded, it’s enough for most small-to-medium applications that will have anywhere from thousands to hundreds of thousands of visitors per month.

If you are just starting out and you need a simple, easy to use hosting for your new site, forum, newsletter, e-shop or other online presence, you can easily go with shared web hosting.

Shared web hosting works very simply: a single, powerful machine (most datacenters nowadays use 4-8 processor cores, 8-16 GB of RAM and 2-3 500-1000 GB hard drives for this purpose, which is enough in 90% of all cases) hosts the accounts of 10-30 clients, with their websites, email accounts and everything else they might have.

The resources are distributed dynamically on a per need basis, and the theory is that it’s highly unlikely that all of the websites on the server will be hit by a lot of traffic at once, so most of the time; they are enough to keep a stable, high performance for all the clients. When a site gets to the front of Digg or other social network and starts receiving tons of visits, it uses more resources than usual, but because the other clients’ sites are mostly idle, they don’t notice anything.

If that site uses more than a certain amount of resources (which is set in the customer agreement), it is disabled until the owner does something to lower the load or moves to a VPS or dedicated server. This is the biggest drawback of shared hosting, but can be avoided by using a CDN (Content Distribution Network) like the free Coral CDN or paid MaxCDN (the latter gives you nice analytics and more control, but the former is good enough for basic use), which basically caches your pages on a whole network of servers that then serve them to your visitors, avoiding your shared hosting completely (and therefore, not loading your site).

Now that you understand what shared hosting is and how it works, let’s take a look at the best cheap and reliable web hosting companies and see what they have to offer.

1and1. With over 4 million customers and 5 datacenters all around the world, 1and1 is truly one of the leaders in the hosting industry. They have the cheapest prices and the most features per dollar you pay. I also like how they don’t say they offer unlimited everything (which is just impossible) like a lot of other companies do, but that will probably change. They offer various shared hosting plans from $4 to $20, with a lot of disk space and unlimited bandwidth (although it’s probably limited to about 3000-4000 GB per month, like most other companies). They have a great custom Control Panel where you can control everything (obviously :-) from email to domains to transfer limits and billing. They also run frequent discounts of 50% or more percent for the first 3-6 months, which is great if you’re strapped on cash when you start out. Another great thing they do is give you $75-275 for AdWords, Yahoo and CitySearch, so you can use those vouchers to advertise your products. That can easily cover the hosting price for a couple of years!

HostGator. One of the most advertised hosting companies online, HostGator has offers for everyone. Starting at $4.95, they offer unlimited everything (which is not really true, but I guess they couldn’t compete with anyone if they advertised their real limits), and for the $12.95 plan, they give you a free dedicated SSL certificate, IP address and phone number, which would otherwise cost about $90, and is great if you need them (they can all be used for an e-commerce site, for example). They use the cPanel Control Panel, which is pretty standard and works well.

iWeb. Another great hosting company that makes it to the top lists and receives various awards every year, iWeb has a very good shared hosting offer, even if it’s more expensive: they offer a zero-downtime guarantee, which is achieved by having the shared hosting in a virtualized environment (i.e. a cloud) with a few redundant servers as backup. This is great news for anyone who knows how valuable every minute a site is available is. The rest of the offer includes 600GB which you can’t use for personal stuff (although you can probably host videos for your site), unlimited bandwidth and one domain for $1, which is nice. The cost is $1.67 per month, but only if you subscribe for 10 years. If you want to pay monthly, the cost is $7.77.

ix Web Hosting. This was and still is one of the best hosting companies for the last 10 years. Their current offers are between $6.95 and $12.95 (with a special discount of about 50% for all of them) and include free dedicated IPs (2, 3 and 15, which is just amazing, you could use them for SSL, cloaking, proxy sites and other things) and Adwords/Yahoo coupons ($100, $125 and $150). Not too bad, definitely worth checking out.

JustHost. This company has been getting a lot of attention in the last couple of years, and users say that it’s quite good. They’re pushing the limit with their all-unlimited offer (which I believe isn’t true, as I said before), but the price and uptime are good enough, and the support is great, so they can be forgiven :-) . They also give you a free domain with their $6.95 plan (now only $3.45, special promo offer), which is always a bonus.

Shared hosting is a great way to get your presence online and start a site, forum or anything else. If you want to find a webhost It’s cheap, easy to use, doesn’t require a lot of manual configuration (unlike dedicated servers and VPS), and it’s powerful enough to hold a small or medium site with a few tens of thousands of visitors per month. Unless you need more control over your server, you can easily go with shared hosting.

Get Free Death Records Search Online

Dead men tell no tales, but Obituary Searches can sure say a lot. They have come a long way since their humble beginning back at the turn of the 20th century. at present, Public Death Records form the set of Vital Public Records put together with Birth, Divorce and Marriage Records. Public Records are much like reputation, you own it but you don’t really have a say in it.

The details surrounding the death such as time and place of death, burial and funeral information, personal particulars of the departed and some degree of his spouse’s, children’s and parents’ are found in people’s Public Death Records. It’s also customary to put up an obituary alongside the death notices especially if the deceased was a distinguished figure in his lifetime and obituaries often show up as part of death records.

Although some of the information contained in Free Government Death Records may be private and confidential to some degree, Death Records are Public Records nevertheless. This means that generally anybody’s death records can be retrieved by any member of the public as long as the required procedures are followed.

Public Free Death Records Search are useful in locating out-of-touch friends or relatives, criminal investigation, researching a late person by the attached obituary and tracing family trees. Death Certificates are required for some official and legal undertakings and a good place to look is the deceased’s death records. Public Death Notices are also an invaluable resource for Genealogy and other historic studies.

Different states have different laws governing the access and use of Public Death Records. Furthermore, the death record databases of the various states are not linked. That means if it is not known which state precisely is the subject’s state of residence, a state by state search would have to be conducted in order for the search to be exhaustive. Having that said, records within each state however are uploaded onto a central state repository.

Besides the state office, Public Death Records can also be requested from other local government agencies tasked with the function. Death Records Search can be done through the mail, telephone, fax, in person or online over the internet. As with other public services, Online Death Records is the most popular mode of retrieval and has thus become increasingly available.

Although we can Find Death Records essentially free of charge from public offices, the setback is it usually requires queue and waiting period. The format of records among different agencies is also not standardized so they can be potluck in that sense. For more purposeful searches, people would be better-served with fee-based professional information providers which are abundantly found on all major search engines.
